Reckless Drivers Kill TN Teens

It’s difficult to fathom the amount of grief that a parent experiences after losing a child, especially when a negligent driver is to blame in a hit-and-run accident. Two sets of Tennessee parents face the impossible task of burying their children this month after preventable car accidents took the lives of a 19-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Although prosecutors filed charges against the reckless driver in one of the accidents, there is no word on criminal action against the driver involved in the second accident. These families deserve justice, but certain circumstances just don’t warrant criminal charges when police aren’t able to gather enough evidence.

In these situations, many families take matters into their own hands and file personal-injury lawsuits against the person who killed a loved one. These cases are never easy, legally or emotionally, but they can provide a measure of closure and some reimbursement for funeral and medical costs.

A Hit-And-Run Accident Claimed The Life Of A Young Teen

The Tennessean describes the heart-wrenching story of a 14-year-old boy struck on the interstate and left in the road to die. Investigators say that the boy followed his driver’s training when his car developed a flat tire. He told his passengers, his mother and younger sister, to remain on the side of the road while he put on the hazard lights and used a jack to elevate the vehicle.

That’s when Tina L. Wilson, 33, drifted onto the shoulder of the interstate and struck the boy. She fled the scene, but a Good Samaritan who witnessed the hit-and-run accident followed her and called police. Meanwhile, the victim’s mother called for help.

Police say alcohol was a factor and charged Wilson with driving under the influence, as well as reckless endangerment.

A Drag Race Ended in Tragedy After A Racer Struck And Killed A Spectator

Keleian Braden loved fast cars, and he often went to watch illegal drag races but never participated. Last week, he was watching a race from his car, when one driver lost control and slammed into Braden’s vehicle. His girlfriend saw the accident happen and rushed to help Braden out of the car.

WMCTY reports that she unjammed his seatbelt and helped other witnesses take him from the car. An ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The dangerous trend of street racing continues despite the fact that tracks in cities all over Tennessee offer legal alternatives. Police say that they haven’t filed any charges but continue to investigate.
